Durante la convention D23 expo di quest’anno, Disney ha annunciato la nuova serie TV High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Il nuovo mockumentary è sviluppato da Tim Federle per Disney+. È chiaramente ispirato ai tre film con Zac Efron (Troy), Vanessa Hudgens (Gabriella), Corbin Bleu (Chad) e Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay), diretti da Kenny Ortega e scritti da Peter Barsocchi: High School Musical (2006), High School Musical 2 (2007) e High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008).
In dieci episodi, il nuovo show accompagnerà gli studenti della East High School – la stessa scuola in cui erano ambientati i film di Ortega – nell’allestimento dello spettacolo teatrale High School Musical. Durante la preparazione, gli studenti si renderanno conto che il confine tra backstage e palco è piuttosto labile.

The 10-episode scripted series, set as the real-life East High, where the original movie was filmed, follows a group of students as they countdown to opening night of their school’s first-ever production of “High School Musical.” With meta references and some docu-style elements, it’s a modern take on the “classic” from 15 years ago. Show-mances blossom; friendships are tested, while new ones are made; rivalries flare; songs are sung; and lives are changed forever as these young people discover the transformative power that only high school theater can provide.
Il cast è composto da Kate Reinders (Modern Family, Russell Madness), Joshua Bassett (Grey’s Anatomy, Stuck In The Middle), Sofia Wylie (Shook, Back of the Net), Olivia Rodrigo, Matt Cornett, Larry Saperstein, Mark St. Cyr, Dara Renee, Julia Lester e Frankie Rodriguez.

La nuova serie TV debutterà negli Stati Uniti il 12 novembre 2019, in occasione del lancio della nuova piattaforma streaming Disney+. La data d’uscita per il pubblico italiano è ad oggi sconosciuta.
